What will the GP do for a possible adenoid & tonsil infection?

DD is 5 and a bit under the weather. She off her food and complaining of a sore throat, which looks red and inflamed to my layperson's eyes. Her breath smells a bit odd, like shoe polish. She's breathing through her mouth at night and it's more rapid and shallow than usual, and a bit wheezy. Also very restless and up and wide awake at 4.30 am. She was fine at school today, but crashed on a sofa as soon as we got home (wish I could too).

If we have another bad night I'll try and get a GP appointment in the morning. But what are they likely to do? I know they're reluctant to prescribe antibiotics these days. I don't want to waste their / my time but feel like I should get her checked out because of the wheezing.

Oh god, 7 yo DS has come down with diarrhoea and vomiting since I posted so DD's adenoids are the least of my worries now.
