Is my 5months old DS tongue to big? (Picture included).

Since Tuesday, DS has been sticking his tongue out a lot and I notice that he's tongue looks big. Is it me or does he's tongue look bigger then normal babies his age.

Has he got a tongue tie? That would explain why it doesn't seem to be actually stuck out of his mouth.

Not a medic but yes I kind of agree with you, it does look big. A Visit to the GP should put your mind at rest.

It actually looks similar to one of my brothers, he has a huge tongue tie but wasn't aware until he wanted a tongue piercing but couldn't stick his tongue out.

@GummyGoddess I'm not sure if he has tongue tie. His feeding is not effected and I only noticed it on Tuesday that's when he started sticking it out.

That looks a lot like a tongue with a tie to me... if your DS is bottle fed, you might not have noticed. And some babies actually manage to BF quite well with tongue tie (my DS did very well at compensating for it up to a certain point, but the colic was terrible due to his latch - so we had it cut).

GPs often don't know what they're looking for with TT- you might need to see a specialist.

Also- bless his baby mouth! I miss DS's gummy mouth... now he's got teeth he seems much more toddler than baby IYSWIM

My DS used to stick his tongue out and dribble a lot. It is often a sign of low muscle tone around the mouth; children with Down syndrome, who tend to have low tone, often do this. (For clarity, I am not saying that your DS has Down's. Just that he may have a little low tone orally).
There is a rare condition that causes a large tongue but I think affected children keep their tongue out all the time from birth?

Oh god now I can't stop worrying,hopefully I get an appointment to the see Gp tomorrow.
I'm already worried about stiffness around his knees.Gp notice he wasn't strengthening his legs and that his knees feel stiff. Now I'm wondering if the two are related.

Front on my brother has a square tongue too, but ds who also has a minor tie has a heart shape. No harm in asking the health visitor next time you take him to be weighed.

Here's my gorgeous boy as a baby. He doesn't look like this now, lol! This is the kind of minimal stick out he used to do, often it was further forward than this.

It looks like a normal tongue to me!

Not sure what to say here. DD2, now 7, is 100% and probably scary smart (her dad is a Cantab 1st so I take no credit) but as a young baby she often had her tongue partly out and, in the way that some people have big ears, I think her tongue is probably on the large side. And when she was a baby she was exclusively BF because she never mastered bottles and her tongue was often between her lips like a cat flap.
