Help! First time neurotic mum! My 9mo DD has her first cold. She is happy enough but her nose is like a tap! Any advice or tips on helping her get over it as quick as possible!
TIA xxx

Bless I remember our first one too! It's horrible seeing them sick. Get used to it, there will be many more.

  1. Snufflebabe either on baby or on a muslin tied firmly to the cot bars helps stuffy noses at night
  2. Calpol plug ins work well too
  3. Baby may well be off feeding, just try to keep her hydrated and if she is eating food give her high calorie things - full fat yoghurt etc - to make up for missing her proper meals. If her throat is sore yoghurt really cold from the fridge always went down well here, it's all I could get in my DS when he had Hand, Foot & Mouth. Cold fruit (soft berries are good) for extra vitamin C is good too.
  4. Calpol if she's fevery.
  5. Keep her little nose moisturised if it's getting sore
  6. Lots of cuddles!

Expect her sleep to go to pot for a few days even if she's usually a good sleeper.

Good luck!

Also - if she's feeling fine in herself but just had a really runny nose it could be a teething cold so watch out for new teeth arriving! We never had them but my Niece's nose streamed madly for a few days every time she cut a new tooth.

@DumbledoresPensieve thank you! She doesn't have teeth yet and I'm hoping it's her teeth. X

Could well be. Does she have any other signs? Have a feel of her gums if she'll let you, or you might be able to see white bits underneath the gum if they are close. We always had horrible nappies for a few days before new teeth came, but my DS already had a mouthful by 9 months! It was never ending for a while 😂

I got a steam vaporiser to help with DD's colds. It really helped with her breathing at night so she could sleep.

Didn't half make a mess of her bedroom walls though. All that extra water in the air has to go somewhere and opening the windows would rather defeat the object...so it ends up running down the walls, making lovely tide marks in the paint.

@TheBadgersMadeMeDoIt oh I have a vaporiser, I'll try that tonight as well x

My 8 month old is also suffering - nose just dripping, saliva and snot making her cough, she is miserable. Three teeth coming through but they were already visible when the snotfest started, so I assumed it was ‘just’ a cold.
