DD refusing to feed with first cold

As the title says really. She hasn't slept much in days due to coughing in her sleep, she is bf with supplement bottles of an evening and is refusing the bottles, hardly bf either. I'm concerned as she now at 3 months has just got to 9lb 7oz and doesn't put on a huge amount which she sees a specialist for to explore lactose intolerance. She was sick a couple of weeks back with D&V so that's just worked it's way out of her system.

So far for the cold we've:

• Given a nasal spray and used an aspirator although the snot is at the back of the nostril and dripping so not really accessible.
• Been using a plug in vaporiser
• Been bathing her with menthol bubble bath

Any other suggestions? I know it's only a cold but I'm concerned about weight loss.

Saline nose drops befire each feed.
Go and speak to your pharmacist.

I would hon to a walk in with her tomorrow to check ears and throat

Is she still having plenty of wet nappies? Keep an eye on the inside of her mouth too to make sure that isn’t dry.

Little and often is generally the advice for feeding when poorly

What is her respiratory rate?
Can you count how many breaths a minute?
Babies cannot suck if their nose is blocked or if they are breathing fast.

Go to dr - this sounds fairly serious. Babies can only breath through their nose so they can’t feed if they can’t breathe. Any baby coughing at night at 3 months sounds quite ill though so get seen ASAP.

Definitely get her in to be seen again ASAP (good suggestion about the ears/throat check).

I'd invest in a warm air humidifier.

She's had saline drops quite regularly today but I'll do it before each feed now.
Wet nappies are fine but helpful to know about the feeding Sirzy.

Her breaths per minute are 21 but she's nodded off. I'll keep an eye on the breathing.

We're meant to be taking her on a long trip to relatives on Sunday and I have no idea if it's sensible to do so!? I mean, I think it's just a cold but we've all day it including my extended family and it's knocked us.

That’s actually quite a low respiratory rate.... I’d check again and make sure it’s a little higher

I do think she should be seen.

In meantime yes drops then suction before each feed

Is she using a lot of her tummy to breath? That’s another warning sign to look for

Themummy76 She's woken up and it's 32. Her tummy seems OK though.
