Can a 3 year old get thrush?

Hi all this is to more experienced mums than me. My 3 yr old LG is lately complaining of an itchy flower. I’ve cleaned her and put sudocream on daily but she still seems to hump our foot stool because she’s obviously in pain. What I’m asking is could she have thrush? Any advice welcome but I will be taking her to the doctors once an available appointment is free. Just thought I’d ask here for opinions on what it could be. Thanks x

Yes they can get thrush. You can get canestan or datkarin over the counter to put on her - ask the pharmist for advice on how long to apply it for etc.

The other thing it could be is worms - but that tends to cause itchiness more at night and more on the bottom area

Mummy is on the money! It could be either and most often worms at age 3 but worth having her checked out by her GP. In the interim Canestan will be more soothing than sudocreme and you could give her some Combantrim or similar over the counter worming medication.
Have a look at her bottom tonight when she's asleep. If you shine a torch around her anus you should see evidence of thread worms if she has an infestation.
Thrush is usually accompanied by a smelly discharge.

@pilotswife and @Themummy76 checked LGs bottom last night and saw nothing. Apart from her pumping in my face no complaints today of sore flower. Both front and back don’t look red or sore so I’m hoping it was something and nothing. Xx

An itch in that area is an automatic treatment for worms. Especially at that age.

@gamerchick I took her to local pharmacy as Doctors had no availability and explained her symptoms but they wasn’t helpful. I mentioned worms and thrush as the ladies above said it could be that and they didn’t even suggest anything. Bit useless really. X

Go to chemist tomorrow, get the ovex liquid and stick it in the cupboard. If it comes back then give her a dose and another 2 weeks later.

That’s it, it’s not a big deal. There’s no need to be faffing with creams or peering up bumholes.
