This started on Friday night and happened again on Saturday and tonight. He always has about 3 poos about bedtime and each time there has been a fair amount of fresh blood there. It's difficult to say how much blood but more than I have seen before. I can't see any cuts on tearing and he doesn't have any tummy ache. In fact he is normal active self with a healthy appetite. So, do I take him to the doctors or try a wait and see approach? Thanks

I'd take him just to be sure.

Definitely

Is it fresh blood or old?

Yes, get him checked out straight away.

If he's well in himself, no pain and fairly normal poo and frequency then very unlikely to be anything serious. Probably just got mildly constipated and opened a little fissure or something. It happened to my dd quite frequently and usually signals that we need to get her back on the movicol.
