Adenoidectomy aftercare

My son had an adenoidectomy yesterday and I know he can’t go to Nursery etc but can we go to the shops/Park/out anywhere at all?

I know we are looking to avoid infection but these places don’t really put you in close contact with other people.....we’ll have good hand washing practices in place....

He is totally, completely fine so I’m guessing cabin fever is going to set in in about....ummmm...half an hour. We are most definitely not indoors people....!

Did they not speak to you about aftercare? Or give a leaflet?

Just stay indoors, he needs to avoid anywhere that he might pick up an infection. If you get an infection he may end up with a bleed which can land you back in hospital.

No, actually we didn’t receive any aftercare paperwork, only a verbal version at the pre-op which was quite different from the great ormond Street link (6-7 days off Nursery and painkillers for the full week after rather than 10 days and as and when needed after 24 hours).

The slightly ironic thing about being stuck in is that he’s stuck in with me and his baby sister who both have rotten colds so probably pose a higher risk to him than if we were out getting some fresh air.
