If not chicken pox, then what is it?

My 3 year old has her third bout of red itchy spots in four months.

First time she had a cluster of 5 spots on her lower back.

Second time, she had 7 spots, first couple were in her armpit, then some on tummy and back.

This time she has one on her chest and one in her other armpit! They are red and itchy again.

I'm thinking after all this, that none of these were pox. She was never unwell on any of the occasions. Are there any other conditions that would cause similar looking spots? They don't look like insect bites to me.

Anyone come across something similar?

Could they be hives or a reaction, heat or swear rash??

DD has the same! Hers sort of could look like insect bites - but they aren't itchy & it's not hugely the time of year for them is it?

If it's an allergy, it's an odd one. She currently has 2 spots on one leg, 3 on the other and 2 on her tummy.

Thanks for replies everyone. They don't look like molluscum or hives to be honest. Very odd, and strange that they keep appearing every so often. Two different Drs have diagnosed chicken pox on two of the three occasions mind you.

My DS used to break out in spots at certain times (he has quite a few allergies). Turned out he was allergic to my mums leather sofa. Could it be something like that?

Possibly, though she's not been in contact with anything unusual I don't think, plus the spots aren't on her arms or legs or face.

I'd take to the GP to be honest.
Could be: an allergy, moluscum, bites (do you have pets, fleas), hand foot and mouth, blocked pores, shingles???
I would insist they do a blood test to confirm/rule out chicken pox.

Would she not be unwell with that?

I'm pretty sure my youngest DD has had very, very mild chicken pox on two maybe three occasions. My other DDs had full on pox, and the spots / blisters looked the same but never developed into being all over with the unwell side. She's definitely been in close contact on more than one occasion since yet hasn't caught it.

My daughter was diagnosed with chicken pox 3 times on 3 separate occasions. On taking her back to GP after it became quite clear it wasnt c.pox she got re-diagnosed with the very medical 'non-specific rash'
When i asked if it was contagious on first bout (my youngest DD was a week old) I was told no. I then asked how dr can be sure as non specific meant she wasnt sure. Dr said 'i know its not cantagious but can't give u a name for type of rash'

When my Ds had shingles at age 3 it was misdiagnosed as eczema. He wasn't particularly unwell with it but it was itchy and ended up sore too. When the spots didn't clear up with the cream I had been given I went back and that's when we found it was shingles. Apparently more common if they had chicken pox before 1 year old (Ds had it at just under 6 months)

We are the same, two diagnoses and two unnecessary quarantines!!! Unless they've just been very mild doses as you say Sandunes. Only one of the spots blistered though so not sure.

Are they bites? Or heat rash? Possibly a reaction to washing liquid/soap/certain item of clothing?

They are quite distinct separate spots rather than a rash so probably more likely bites than anything else. Not like any bites I've ever had though! Very odd.

I think it was the first time she had the spots that only a couple looked like blisters so thought it was the beginning of pox, but discounted it as it didn't develop. The second time she had more, but still less than ten and not unwell. Who knows! I guess in time I could get her immunity checked, or she can choose to do that when she's older.

That sounds exactly like us! Only one spot looked blistery and the spots remained unchanged in appearance, though more did develop. Be good to confirm either way.

Hand, foot & mouth?

Wondered about that but not on hands, feet or mouth!!!
