Irregular periods

My dd is 13 and has had about 3 periods - the last one was a year ago and then she's now started again yesterday.

Is this normal? Should I take her to the doctor?

Completely normal at this stage. It can take a while for things to settle down. Irregular periods are can last for two years or so. Please google and be reassured that things are fine. I think it has to do with ovulation...

Thank you Canadalife - that's reassuring.

I had one a couple of months after my 13th birthday then nothing for 6 months and it took about a year to get into any pattern if I recall. One of my DDs was the same, all perfectly normal.

It's normal to be irregular within the first year or so. I started mine when I was 14 I believe. My first one was extremely light and barely there, I didn't have another for three months which was a bit heavier then at one point it was every two weeks! They settled down and become regular within a year or so!
