Baby skin problems not eczema

Hi I was wondering if anyone has any experience of this. Baby has terrible dry red skin on outer arms, a rash and dry skin on chest and stomach and rash is also sometimes visible on arms and upper legs. One nipple is also slightly inflamed. Rash first appeared over 4 weeks ago, was told viral rash originally but now possibly considered not to be. 4 weeks ago he had a stomach bug with severe diarrhoea and is still pooing most days often more than once and sometimes very explosive. This is different to before the stomach bug where he was going every 4 to 5 days.

Went to GP today. Was told isn't eczema as it's in the wrong place and not itchy. Not fungal. He doesn't know what it is. Position of it is above and below sleeve line so unlikely to be washing powder. Prescribed emollient and steroid cream. Baby is otherwise healthy and before the bug was putting on weight etc. Not weighed recently but he had started to put on some weight after the bug

I have looked online but everything is about eczema... Has anyone else's DC had something like this?

It might not be anything similar, but my ds had a similar sounding rash as a baby which I'm sure started after a stomach virus. The doctor said eczema and prescribed emollient.

It turned out later that ds has several allergies, most strongly a dairy allergy that when I noticed and cut it out if my diet (bf) meant not only did his explosive nappies and vomiting stop, but his rash went away as well. These days the rash is a telltale sign for us that he's accidentally had something he's allergic too.

Looking back I do think he was always somewhat allergic, however I'm convinced the stomach bug ramped up his immune response and it seems to me his symptoms (rash, vomiting etc.) amplified following the stomach bug.

Obviously this is not a medical opinion, just my opinion, but I know for sure now that my ds's rash is allergy related rather than eczema as originally thought.

Could be worth checking dermatitis herpetiformis. Sounds similar symptoms to my DC as a baby at 6 months. Was eventually diagnosed with coeliac disease.
Hope this isn't the case obviously op but worth ruling out.

Thanks for your replies. I have been worried about allergies. My DSis is a doctor but not gp or paediatrician and she said it might be time to push for a referral. I am going to see what happens over the weekend and call GP on Monday if I am still not happy
