Colonoscopy and endoscopy.

DS (12) is having an endoscopy and colonoscopy as a day case due to off the chart levels of inflammation in his bowel.
Can anyone advise me on what to expect? We've got the prep and the list of allowed foods. DS is anxious, he's very embarrassed about toilet talk and the though of a camera in his bottom is mortifying to him, it took me months and so much coaxing to get him to do a stool sample a few weeks ago so this will be hard for him.

He's fine with hospitals in general as he is a regular inpatient for CF and he'll be having a GA when it's done but this is different, this is embarrassing for him and I want to be prepared. Thanks in advance.

My son had this (age 6) - the prep wasn't fun, but it's pretty straightforward - drink a big drink of lemony laxative water, and wait for it to take effect. No food, just lots of sitting on the loo emptying out his bowels until they run completely clear. Ie, water coming out of his bottom. My son hated drinking the drink, but that's just him... so there was a lot of coaxing. Then the GA - and up and about straight afterward. They can also do a camera swallow thing. But he would have to poo out the camera... Only natural to be mortified at his age. Big reward /bribe is your best bet. Good luck.
