Fungal rash on DS

My DS aged 7 months has been very red under his penis/on his testicles. It looked like nappy rash but wouldn't clear up despite nappy cream, talc, nappy-off time. Brought him to the GP who thought it was fungal and prescribed Canesten with steroids, and have been told to bring him back if not cleared in 7-10 days, but it doesn't seem to be helping at all after 4 days and is still a very angry red.

I keep it clean and dry as much as possible but he seems so uncomfortable and the skin is broken . Any advise on anything else I can try - something in the bath maybe?

Bacterial infection?

He's not long off a course of antibiotics so I wondered if it might have been thrush but it didn't have the right rash pattern type. Feck, I wanted to avoid anymore antibiotics but I guess if it's bacterial it will be the only option.

Any idea how to confirm or is it justby getting it swabbed?

Back to gp I'm afraid as antibiotIc cream is prescription only.
Personally I'd keep trying with the canestan over the weekend and then get an appointment for Monday. If he's in a lot of pain tho then out of hours over weekend.
Also use metanium as well as this v good for calming enflamned skin
