What happens during a baby's first allergy appointment?

10mo DR has reacted with hives and swollen eyes to a few things so we are going to the allergy clinic next week. Are they likely to do the prick test and a blood test the first time? Can anyone tell me what to expect?

When we went they literally asked about all the incidents where ds had reacted and then did a prick test to test for these things . Then just had to wait 15-20 mins for results. All in all a quick and almost painless procedure.

Same as above - they also asked about my medical history (lots of allergies) and dh's.
He was weighed and measured. Skin prick tests.

We left with a diagnosis of milk protein allergy (expected) and peanut allergy (total shock). And a follow up appointment with the dietician.

They weren't actually very good at telling us how to handle his allergies (practically and emotionally). I got far more support from the allergy boards on here and from anaphalaxis uk. But in the following years they were very useful at reviewing and retesting him, diagnosing new allergies and finally carrying out challenges as he outgrew.

He's 11 now and allergic only to kiwi fruit and grass pollen. Smile

I agree with barbarian mum we weren't given much info ie possibly foods that could cause that reaction - wholesome egg allergy ( ok with cake, Yorkshire puddings, cooked egg things but not egg, mayo, marshmallows etc) we've just taken a try it and see approach as it's only a moderate allergy but nonetheless a list of potential reacting causing foods would have been nice. We were told it will either get better or worse so we just have to play the waiting game.
