movicol help

my 3 year old suffers from constipation and has been on movicol.

recently he had been geat and hadn't had any issues but we went on holiday and he held his poo for most of the 2 weeks.

got home the gp suggested i up his movicol daily until he goes - after 3 sachets we have had runny poo. I still think he is backed up though as he is doing the things for comfort that he does when he is constipated and we are having a bit of a leaky bum

has anyone else encountered this? Do i keep on with upping the movicol?

Yes keep on with the high dose, you can get 'leakage' around a blockage. Does he have sodium picosulfate as well? We didn't get on top on my daughters constipation/withholding issues until we were using both. Have you been referred to a continence clinic? They have helped us massively.

Keep upping it until it runs like water, then back down again until it is normal. 2 weeks will have a lot of back up, the top stuff will get runny and flow round the blockage, you need to get it all out. Not pleasant, but effective.

This might be helpful?

Thank you all

I've given him 4 sachets today, and the gp told me to keep upping it until he is cleared out. Even this evening there was leakage and he's got a bloated tummy so I know there is more to come

Might push for a referral to the continence clinic. He's had constipation issues since he was a baby

It's all about the poo in my house ATM as my 2 year old has had toddlers diarrhoea since October Confused

The leakage is overflow that seeps around the hard stools - keep upping it until he clears out fully

Been up most of the night now with ds writhing in pain

Going to have to take him to the gp as the movicol isn't working and it's been around 3 weeks since he passed a normal poo
