Ear infection on holiday?

We are in holiday in Spain and my son has been swimming in the beach and the hotel pool. He said yesterday that it felt like there was water in his ear. Today, he said his ear hurts a little. No temp, but he does have a cold also - blocked nose and coughing. We are here for another six days. I was thinking of seeing what he's like in a couple of days and giving the pool a wide berth but given that we are flying in a week, should I take him to GP today? A part of me thinks that it might be cold related and that if I take him to GP, they won't take a chance a prescribe AB regardless (bitter past experience). Any ear infection experts out there?

You can get something from the chemist is Spain that dries up the water.
Think it's called Otix or Otlix

Try chemist 1st but if still sore I would get him to Drs before you fly. Can't take the chance and flying could make the problem worse

Ds had exactly those symptoms in that exact situation (Majorca!) and it was an ear infection.

Mmm...I don't mind obviously if he has ear infection then no swimming, be careful due to flying etc. (An acquaintance is deaf due to eardrums rupturing on flight). I am just concerned that I don't want to ruin his holiday if he has sore ears due to cold. Ah, we will go to the Dr! Poor mite, he loved his two days of swimming - went snorkling for the first time and was delighted, screaming with excitement :(.
