Hi. My 5 yr old has been diagnosed with a retracted eardrum and has been referred to the ENT department but her appointment isn't until October! Shock
I just wondered if anyone else(or child) has had experience with this.

Ds had that when he was 6yo. He has glue ear quite badly, and had two lots of grommets at that point. We were asking for consideration given to hearing aids rather than a third grommet op, but they said because of the retracted ear drum that grommets would be a better option.

Thanks for replying. She's been complaining that noises have hurt her ears for a while but I put it down to her being a moany pants. Then one morning she said a bus hurt them so I made the Drs appointment and she got referred. Suppose what I'm asking is that will they operate on her? I feel so guilty not listening to her now.

It may well depend on a hearing test. For ds it was a choice between grommets and hearing aid due to his hearing being bad, but if her hearing's okay they may be happy just to leave it.
