3 year old having blue lips

So my otherwise healthy 3 year old gets occasional blue lips. As in purple and blue around them. Usually when she's cold.

If it was my baby (with a congenital heart defect - linked to downs syndrome rather than genetic) I would rush her to A&E and fear heart failure/respiratory problems.

But we have no reasons to think she has heart problems. She had her sats taken recently when at doctors for a UTI, sms they were normal range.

She has no other health issues other than mild allergies and a cough that can be persistent and complains of a sore chest when doing lots of exercise. She takes ventolin for these although never diagnosed formally as asthmatic.

I'm reluctant to take her to GP as we're there all the time! And she's otherwise fine.

My DS does this & i have vivid memories of my brother being the same - usually when cold in a swimming pool but also other cold times. Both very skinny but perfectly healthy- i've never worried about it.

Is it your baby or not? Your OP is confusing.

I wouldn't worry about occasional blue lips linked to being child.

My 3 year old has the blue lips... My baby has CHD and isn't allowed to get cold or have blue lips!

She is quite skinny. Maybe that's it.

Ah right, I get it nowGrin

Seeing as there is a family history I'd make a GP apt.

My niece kept getting blue lips, she had a heart murmur and got referred for lots of tests, no treatment was required and she grew out of it by 5. Probably worth going for a check up, take a pic with you to show the colour.

GP's often don't diagnose asthma in under 5's, although ours did.

I still get blue lips when cold. No major issues but I do have low blood pressure and Raynaud's. Never needed any treatment I just get v cold !
