Temperature but no other symptoms

Ds2 has had a temperature on and off since Sunday, starting at 38.9, but it came down by itself. He has no rashes, not really whinging, no other symptoms of being ill. He's not eaten quite as much as usual but he's drinking fine. He's 26 months and has been teething for a while, he's also in the process of dropping his nap, hasn't slept today and is knackered now but otherwise fine. Temp was 38.7 when I put him to bed last night so I gave 2.5ml ibuprofen, and again at 4am when he woke as he still felt really warm. Has been fine all day today but in the last hour his temp is back up to 38.8, still no other symptoms, he's just really warm! How long would you leave it before calling a doctor? If I didn't touch him I would think that he's fine, and it's not permanently risen. I don't want to be the over cautious mother wasting the time of doctors when he seems ok in himself. Thanks 🙂

My daughter had similar symptoms and it turned out to be tonsillitis. Dr said there are only a few illnesses that produce such a high temperature. I don't think any decent doctor would criticise you for having a young child checked out, especially when there is obviously something going on.

Really hope your little one is back to normal soon. Flowers for you - it is horrible when they are ill.

Urine infection? Ear infection? Id take him to gp tomorrow so he's sorted before the weekend

My DD had very similar symptoms, very high temp (39+) with no other symptoms for several days and it turned out to be a really bad water infection. Not sure if these are as common in boys but it might be worth trying to get a sample for the Drs to test before taking him in. My DD was given antibiotics straightaway and was back to normal in a few days. Really hope your DS feels better soon!
