Veiny child

Hello

I wonder if anyone could help me.

M 7 year old son is very pale and skinny. He literally has no fat.

I can see all his veins in his chest and on his tummy.

Of course, I have Googled and come up with Ehlers-danlos syndrome, Type 4, the vascular one.

Im going out of my mind with worry.

I can't stop looking at other kids to see whether they are veiny too - I feel like a freak.

Thank you x

My veins are very visible and green ... because I'm pale. Take him to the Gp if you're worried - is he a redhead?

My DD is very fair , her skin is veiny as well she has a vein that goes down the side of her forehead that she used to be conscious of because other kids noticed
I wouldn't worry

Does he have any of the other symptoms? There are many more then veins.

I have a similarly thin, veiny ds. He's just thin and you can see the veins because if that. He doesn't have ehlers-danios, he's just thin and veiny Smile

Take him to your Gp, I hope they will be able to put your mind at rest.

If you're worried, go to your GP.
The worst thing you can do is Google.

It's highly unlikely he has this. EHS is characterised by hyper-flexible joints (my friends little boy has this and he can bend his foot up so his toes touch this calf), chronic joint pain, fragile skin that tears and bruises easily as well as translucent skin. Does your DS have any of these other symptoms?

Both of my DDs have very pale skin. DD1s veins can clearly be seen on her tummy, thighs and arms. It's normal for them both. It's not freaky.

Hello

Wow! Thank you so much for your responses, it's much appreciated.

My son is 7, he has dark blonde hair and hazel eyes.

My other 2 kids are darker like their dad and suntan very easily.

He does have a golden sun tan on leg and arms from wearing shorts and T shirt, but even when we go swimming at the beach, he's always covered.

No other symptoms, just very skinny, no fat and visible veins.

Im worried as Ive "read" that the vascular type 4 only has flexile joints in the feet and hands.

He did have a recent echo on his heart as he said he was having palpitations. We went private to a children's cardiologist in Harley Street and he had to take his top off for the echo. Do you think the cardiologist would have mentioned something if he thought it out of the ordinary? (Heart is structurally fine BTW).

My GP would probably dismiss me as being neurotic as he knows I have anxiety issues.

xx
