Nosebleeds

Dd has just had the most horrendous nosebleed. It lasted on and off for 1 hour and used up almost 3 whole toilet rolls. She was in such a panic. Can someone please tell me if I was treating it correctly. I was telling her to squeeze the soft part of the nose whilst leaning her head forward? This is what I've been told to do by the school so have followed this advice. Would you think she should see a doctor as she does have smaller nosebleeds quite often ?

Yes I'd see a gp. Dd also gets them and has been prescribed nasal sprays and at the moment takes a daily antihistamine. She's been referred to ENT about them too. She is 13 and has had nosebleeds for years

And Yes, squeeze the soft part and lean head forward

I believe if the nosebleed lasts longer than 20 mins you're meant to go to A&E. Especially if they're light headed.

My son gets an awful lot of them and we find pressing the hard bit above nostrils works better for him and ice. His stop in 10 mins usually. I always ask him to not blow his nose, pick it etc afterwards so he doesn't set it off again.

Sorry, yes definitely see the GP if she's getting them a lot.

No I always leave the clot well alone, it shifts when they bath. But I basically leave it all alone for 24 hours to make sure he doesn't restart 😂

I'm 37 and use to have really bad nose bleeds but was always told if it last less than 30 minutes just to treat it at home. Longer than that and I should go to A&E.

I've only been to A&E once and they referred me to ENT doctor to get my nose cauterised. They been a lot better since and now just get small ones.

I've had some hum dingers though - bar in Las Vegas (they shit the loo so hubby could help me sort it), JFK airport, in the car after sneezing (not driving thankfully) and my favourite was whilst I was asleep - woke up to something that looked like a scene from Psycho!! Had tons at work too.

Strangely I never remember getting them when I was younger, only from 15/16 onwards and got worse towards my late 20's.

Yes DS pillow can look like a crime scene.

I'm going to go to doctors first thing Monday. The only thing that stopped it was pulling out the clot! There was no sign of it stopping and she was getting hysterical. I've never been sure weather to leave the clot or not

I've never seen a big clot whilst DS has his, it's as it dries I've seen them. Sounds scary.
