A&E for ear infection

CottonSock · 04/07/2017 20:23

Please read before you respond that I'm wasting nhs time.

Baby has had current ear infection for a month. Oozing puss, on and off. Sometimes pouring out.

Seen 4 doctors and had 5 different treatments. Not worked.

Gp today seemed very concerned.
Waiting for an ent refferal but I'm done waiting. Gp worried about mastoiditis.

I might just turn up at a&e tomorrow.
Supposed to be waiting on call back from on call ent, but I am worried this could end with serious infection / hearing loss.

Just wanting a vent / hand hold.

Gp said she cant tell me to go, but I get the impression she thinks I should

Well she can tell you to go to A&E - GPs do it all the time.

It is a baby; you are concerned about an ear that is leaking pus. I would go. The babe's hearing is too precious to take risks with.

How old is your baby?

Go if your gut feeling is that this isn't being taken seriously enough.

CottonSock · 04/07/2017 21:02

She turned 1 last week
Gp are taking seriously, but I don't think they know what to try next.

Is her heart rate, temp all ok?

The gp could refer you more urgently - that way you should get an appointment ASAP - worth asking

Graceflorrick · 04/07/2017 21:33

I would take her to OOH.

CottonSock · 05/07/2017 08:40

The gp did call it as urgent. I'm waiting for a call back but just want it sorted.

Ooh cant do anything. She needs to see ent.

A&e will only refer to ent though won't they it won't actually speed things up?

Hope you get it sorted soon.

CottonSock · 05/07/2017 15:47

I took her, they reffered her and she was seen by ent same morning. Amazing service...
Anyway they sucked out a lot of puss and had a good look. She was so good.
New medicine which should work now it can get into her ear.
Follow up next week. I'm going to ask for hearing test too.
Probably it wasn't an a&e job, but gp couldn't do the suction / mircosope thing so glad we went.
Thanks all
