Sebaceous nevus

Name changed as think this is quite rare, although I'm not sure!
Was anyone's baby born with a sebaceous nevus? My little one has one on their cheek. It's not huge and just looks like a slightly red bumpy scratch mark to be honest, a couple of Cm long, but after trying steroid cream and moisturiser and fungal cream it never disappeared so we've been referred to a paediatric dermatologist at the hospital.
I understand they mainly look to remove these when children are in their teens?
What happens until that point? Is it monitored yearly etc?
Thanks for any advice.
