My 8 yo was done a few weeks ago. We didn't have a book but talked through the op with him and why it was happening. The NHS website had some useful information which we put into child speak for him. He told everyone he was having his willy sliced by the willy dr!
After the op he was quite sore and wore nothing for the first few days. He was most comfy sitting on a towel on the sofa. He bathed every day in tepid salty water which really helped with healing.
I hope the op goes well for your ds too.

Can't offer advice on books/videos I'm afraid. My 12 yo had his op last year. Team at the hospital were very good and there was a play specialist who showed him cannula before he went to theatre and talked to him so he knew what would happen as never had a hospital stay before. My DS wanted to get dressed, perhaps because a bit older. Tight fitting trunks to hold everything in place, with vaseline smeared on to stop things 'sticking' overnight. He was up and about the following day and fine in himself, although a bit of 'john wayne' walking for a few days! As pp has said, daily bathing here, although just plain water for about a week. Hope all goes well.
