Threadworms!

I know there are other threads (!) on this, but dd1(7) has just come to me in the night with an itchy bottom & it's threadworms! Her & I have taken the tablet (I keep them in the bathroom cabinet!), and dh and dd2 can take one in the morning. Dd1 had them once before, but I can't really remember what I did, so after some advice/reassurance, feeling really gross over the whole thing! Googling doesn't help!

She always wears knickers & pyjamas in bed, so realistically they're less likely to have spread aren't they?! I plan to hot wash her pjs & knickers, as well as all towels, and wipe down the surfaces in her bedroom. Do I need to do anything else? Fortunately they've been playing outside most of the day.

This is definitely a parenting low point! Sad

Oh god I remember the horror ! Make sure you scrub her fingers to get rid of any eggs .

NuzzleandScratch · 04/06/2017 03:22

Thanks, I made her wash her hands thoroughly, and luckily I didn't touch the area myself. But I now feel like the eggs will be everywhere! I know it's irrational, and actually last time it all cleared very quickly, but it's just the thought of it! They were at soft play a couple of days ago, bet that's where she caught them! Envy

I was told that they're often spread when kids play with play doh or plasticine .

Bumping for morning crowd.

I'm afraid that all the cleaning in the world won't stop it happening. Good idea with PJ's and bedding but the eggs could be anywhere. Trying to stop them putting fingers in mouth and making sure they scrub fingernails is your best bet. Although I had them recently too and like to think I clean my hands properly and don't bite nails or suck fingers so God knows!!

Remember to give everyone the 2nd dose.

Towels, bedding on a hot boil wash too!

NuzzleandScratch · 04/06/2017 14:30

Thanks, have washed all towels & cleaned all toilets. Bedding next. It's just the thought of them, yuck! I'd take head lice any day over this!

It's not a parenting low, to part of having kids.

Just do a good damp dust on the house and all touchables (light switches, remotes, controllers etc) and dose again in a couple of weeks.

Kids are gross, there's no getting away from it Grin

It wouldn't have been from 2 days ago, they take a couple of weeks to develop from eggs (that's why 2 doses 2 weeks apart is good). It's just one of those things. We had them for years on & off, it's horrid.

Thanks, I wasn't sure about the timing, guess she must've got them from school before half term then.
