DD aged 3 is sobbing because her ear hurts

She woke up around 11.30 crying. No fever but she was obviously in a lot of pain and told me her ear hurts. I have her some Calpol around midnight and she finally went back to sleep around 1am. She woke up around 2am sobbing and not making much sense. Eventually she said to me that her ear hurts again and said she wanted some more Calpol. Obviously she couldn't have another dose of Calpol but I gave her some ibuprofen around 2.30. She's now settling down. Can I keep alternating the two through the night? And is there anything else I can do to try m to ease the pain for her?

This is a folk remedy but it really worked on my daughter when she had earache. Take a clove of garlic, peel it and cut in half lengthways. Hold the freshly cut side against the sore ear for a few minutes - do NOT put it in the actual canal. It really helped with the pain.

Yes, keep alternating the paracetamol and ibuprofen. Just keep an eye that you don't go over the max dose for either.

Yes keep alternating but bear in mind it's usually only three doses of ibuprofen in 24 hours rather than four like calpol. I would also get a doctor's apoointment today. My dd had an ear infection without a high temp when she was one which was only sorted out with antibiotics. Hope she feels better soon.

Holding something warm against her ear can help the pain ( eg covered hot water bottle) make sure not too hot obviously.

Thanks all. She went back to sleep a while after the ibuprofen and didn't wake up again during the night. She's still asleep now which is unheard of for her. I've checked in on her and she's fine, hopefully just catching up on the sleep she lost over night. I'd like her to wake up soon though so I can judge if she needs to see the GP. Typically after DD1 went to sleep, DD2 was awake for 2 hours. Why does it always happen that way?
