When DD was three the health visitor thought she had a squint and referred her to the optician at the hospital. It was only a Sudo squint but it was picked up she was long sighted. They said not unusual for her age and get it checked in future.
I took DD now five to opticians last week and she is long sighted still. I took her because she starts rubbing her eyes when she sits doing her homework for a while. It's +1.50 in each eye but the optician said to leave her without glasses for now, and check again in 6 months.
Does anyone know if 1.50 is a high prescription? Is it likely to get better? I am not a glasses wearer so am pretty clueless.

No it is not high.
Dd has +4

My dd is +2 in one eye and +3 in other. She has a turn in her eye but glasses straighten the turn. +1.50 isn't very high

+1.50 isn't high. Its normal for children to be slightly long sighted at 5 an average refractive error is around +0.75, so your DD is a little higher than normal, but not much.

I'm approx +1.50DS in each eye and I've only started wearing reading glasses a couple of years ago, but I did wear them at primary school.

Whether she needs glasses depends on a few things:
How well her eyes are working together
If she's having any problems with reading (deciphering words, or reading speed)
If she is getting any headaches or eyestrain.

Did the Optometrist put any drops into her eyes? If not, her actual prescription may well be a little higher than that. But if she isn't having any symptoms, I'd agree with the waiting 6 months.

My DS has +8.5 each eye - that's the kind of level I count as high.
