Our newborn (1week) performs several deep breaths every so often. Is this anything to be concerned about?

Newborns have this funny breathing pattern whereby they do lots of short breaths and then a big one - I can't remember the name for it but google it and you'll see it's completely normal albeit scary for first time parents!

However if he's grunting or making noises when breathing not just deep breaths then take him to the ooh. Also if he's working hard to breath like nostrils flated or using a lot of his tummy and chest to suck in to breath.

always take your baby to a dr if you are concerned - every dr will happily see a newborn even if it's just to reassure you

Thank you, that's exactly what is happening. That is a big help.
