DD sensitive to sun cream

DD (3) has come up in a rash from using sun cream this week. I do keep her covered with hat/long sleeves etc but want to use cream as well for full days out/beach etc. I think I just need to trial and error different brands etc but it's going to cost a fortune potentially if I have to buy more than a couple more brands. Anyone have any tips on any that are particularly good for sensitive skin? She doesn't have any skin conditions normally. The one I started with is boots own brand kids sensitive 50+ spf.

Have you tried Piz Buin Allergy? I get dreadful prickly heat rash but this brand is amazing in preventing it. Pricey but often on offer.

We tried lots of brands for my DD and spent a fortune. Ended up going to the go because we were going abroad. They prescribed sun sense and we have never looked back.

My son had this until he was about 5. I found the organic brands were always fine for him. Try having a look in a health food shop?

My DD was allergic to the boots sun creams. I switched to the banana boat range (can get in supermarkets) and that has been fine

DD has had some horrendous reactions to some sun creams. Ultra sun is really good, we also find Ambre Solaire is OK for her but it's trial and error. The Boots one that was supposed to be great for sun allergies was awful for her!

I went from shop to shop dabbing different ones on her arm! Had to make a note of which was where on her though! She was bad with Nivea, tesco own (or superdrug, can't remember which) was the best at the time. She's grown out of it now and can handle most creams

Thanks all. Found the piz buin allergy one factor 30 in b&m for £4.99 so she's gone to nursery with that today. If that too fails I shall try some of the others you recommend. I like the idea of testing in all the shops-bit cheeky though!

When DD started with reactions to sun cream, our GP advised to check for a high level of zinc oxide which is an actual block, and is not absorbed into the skin, as opposed to other ingredients which are absorbed into the skin and the chemicals in them work in a different way.

Nivea kids factor 50 is our cream of choice.

This year I'm trying MooGoo factor 15 on myself, it seems very gentle and unreactive so far. It's quite shiny for the first hour though. I'll try it on DS after I've used it on myself for a couple of weeks.

Try sunsense. Ds has a lot of allergies and the specialist recommended it. They do a toddler milk that is really gentle but others are good too

Try thenaloe vera sum cream - goes up to factor 25 - but is only 2% less affective than the 50 brands

Always has lovely soft skin at the end of summer

Sunsense Sunsensitive worked for DS for years, and then, suddenly about 7 years ago, it gave him a nasty rash. I think it was a change in DS rather than a change in the Sunsense formulation though.

We were given sunsense factor 50+ by the gp as dd had a horrible allergic reaction to other Sun creams. We went back last year for more (two years after last rx) and were told they were no longer prescribing it. It was about £20 a bottle when we looked and we couldn't afford that so we tried some different sensitive skin brands that were cheaper and it seems the Nivea sensitive stuff no longer irritates her.
