Constant infections

My two year old has had various infections since he was born, he had to get adenoids removed in January, he was fine until end march when he became ill with rhinovirus, adenovirus, enterovirus all at one time and ended up taking a seizure due to it, he just started getting better last Monday, since Friday he's had a sore throat and bad cough again, doctor said this morning another viral infection, has any one else little ones had as many infections within a short period

Has he ever been tested for allergies or intolerance or anaemia etc?

Would explain a severely lowered immune system resulting in him catching/developing all these infections

Not at this stage, they thought it was adenoids causing all the illnesses but I think myself it must be something else causing it really think his immune system, asking for another referral as it has been so tough

What did they think his adenoids were doing?

Was he sniffley and mucousy and the resulting breathing/sleeping/wheezing stuff?

How does he look? Is he pale with dark under eyes? Is he energetic when well?

What is diet like?

Sounds very stressful and I am sure there is light at the end of the tunnel if you can work out what is going on

He was constantly mucousy struggling to breathe/sleep and he was wheezing a lot before operation, they also gave me blue inhaler to help him but not been diagnosed with asthma yet, in November he had 3 viruses at one time Rsv, rhinovirus and enterovirus which caused his breathing to be so bad he was struggling which resulted in a tug and oxygen dropping, he was physically drained, they thought his adenoids were infected due to all the infections he's had,

I would start a food diary and see if you can see a link between what he's eating and his symptoms being worse.

Can you afford a private appointment to see if he can he tested for anaemia coeliac and vitamin deficiencies etc?

He's always pale looking and has always dark patches under eyes, he's extremely energetic when well won't sit down, he's been attending a dietitian cause they thought he had a digestion problem cause he was waking up crying with wind constantly but now that doesn't happen, he eats loads veg, fruit, fish, chicken etc he's a really tall boy for his age so I make sure he drinks enough fluids,

Done food diary for dietitian and she worked out he was getting the right amounts, but I think bloods are differently required

I meant as more to see if there's any links between what he's eaten that day and how he's doing. Not the amounts/balance

I will get an absolute flaming here for not having "scientific evidence" to back up my claims.

Anyway, my child was similar and I transformed their health by going largely dairy free, low refined sugar and low gluten.

He was on dairy products last year I took him off it then cause off the mucus he was always getting, I thought it was causing the stomach pains etc aswell but he was still the same, so after consulting docs they advice me to introduce dairy again, thanks I try a food diary myself and see

I don't know if you are aware but when you do dairy free you also have to do soya free and nearly half the people who have problems with cows milk protein also react to soya as proteins are very similar.

I just a very snotty baby who was admitted three times to hospital with sepsis and 2x bronciolitis and was gunky inbetween

Fast forward to a prescription milk and a dairy free diet (she was ok woth soya ) and different baby and a very healthy now 6 yr old who grew out of it

Wasn't aware thanks, he's had 12 or more chest infections, pneumonia, so many viral throat/bacterial infections lost count, urine infections, his ear was blocked inside due to fluid so that's why ENT removed adenoids and drained his ear, never away from hospital, he's not as mucusy in nose as much now it's just his throat that's always getting infections and am concerned he'll end up with sepsis one day due to it I really need to try find the source causing it all

Sounds like asthma is also a real possibility and you may need to push for more of a regime where you get prevented inhalers as opposed to just the blue ones.

Has he had a white blood count done? Specifically neutrophils?

It's quite bizarre how doctors never consider food allergies.

Did he improve when off dairy?

Agree with PP about soya. Also, dairy alternatives like fake cheese are fairly awful processed crap.

Has he had an immune screen done?

Back at doctors today his condition deteriorated again now has crackles in chest / lung due to bacteria infection, persistent cough since beginning of April, not had immune system checked yet but it's on the top of discussion with my own GP, he was still ill when of dairy still took infections
