DD 9 has not been well for the last 24 hours. She went to school yesterday, the school called me at lunch time to tell me she was ill but didn't want to come home so I picked her up at normal time, however she's worse today and won't be going in.

Her symptoms are feeling sick but no actually d or v, being hot and cold and looking alternately flushed or pasty but although warmer than normal her temperature isn't especially high, stomach ache that's worse on the lower left side but not excruciating and general listlessness. I know all these could point towards appendicitis, but could also just be a minor bug.

I don't want to waste the GPs time with a self limiting virus, but I am a bit worried about the possibility of it being her appendix playing up. So wise mumsnetters, what would you do?

With no d&v I'd be inclined to take her to the GP with those symptoms to rule anything out.

Hope she's feeling better soon bless her Flowers

Well appendicitis would normally be on the right side, as your appendix is in the lower right quadrant of the abdomen (in the vast majority of people, barring the miniscule number of people who have reversed organs).

Unless she gets specific symptoms or becomes acutely unwell, I'd be inclined to stick with simple food, lots of fluids, regular pain relief and see how she goes st this stage.

Appendix is lower right side as pp mentioned. Has she has a trauma to that side/area? A bang or fall/hit around there? What is her temp? Has she started periods yet/could she be? Is she particularly stressed or anxious about anything?

I would leave as at that age she will be able to alert you if things get worse.
