Since when has buttercup syrup been for over 12s?!

DD has a cough so I send OH out for buttercup syrup. She has had it before but not for a few years. On back of the bottle now though it says over 12yrs only. Does anybody know when this changed and more importantly why? DD is 9 and quite big for her age, do you think she'd be ok with a half dose? She had a terrible time last coughing and was hoping this would help. Thanks

Sorry I don't know but try one teaspoon of honey, a bit of lemon juice and hot water as a drink for her instead. Cough syrups don't do a lot other then soothe the throat which this does too.

I didn't know it had been! I gave it to my DD only a few weeks ago. Thanks for the heads up.

Made an account just to reply to this, I don’t even know if you’re still active. I’m not a mum but I remember when I was younger than 12 that I wasn’t allowed to have it cause I was too young. I was probably around 10ish but possibly younger/older and that would have been roughly 2010-2013

It's got alcohol in.

Probably why we all likes it so much as kids.

The label also says not to sell to alcoholics.

My grandma used to do us buttercup syrup and hot water in a shot glass, to be drunk in one as hot as you can stand it.

And always have one herself.

Oh also and it works

You made an account to resurrect a 5 year old thread?

Why? The mind boggles !

i don't think it's wise to eat/drink anything too hot.
ask a pharmacist for advice on medicaments, esp for children.

alexdgr8 · 17/06/2022 01:26

that's a point; how did you even find it.
or do you work for the manufacturers of the syrup ?
