Leaky ear

Hi there - since Friday my little boy (age 1) has woken up with loads of wax in his outer ear, as if its pooled there overnight. This morning it was more watery.

My first thoughts were ear infection (gp said his ears were red and she thought it was a virus about a week ago), so currently thinking of getting him an appointment.

Is there any reason to think that I need to take more urgent action, or am I overreacting and it should go on it's own?

Things to consider to help decide the urgency of this:
Is he I'll with it?
High temperature or hot to touch?
Is he not drinking fluids?
Are his nappies dry?
Is he in pain? Have you needed to give him calpol? Is he no better after this?
Is there a nasty smell to the wax? Any blood in it?

If the answer is no to the above, it will get better on its own, have a look on NHS choices website at ear infections. Great evidence based website, loads of advice and red flags to look out for on there.
