8 mo has a cold and..

DP is giving her ibuprofen and paracetamol at staggered intervals. Is this what we should be doing? I've posted before about being a bit wary of overdosing her. Whenever I Google it I just find things about how it's not always necessary for a fever, but she doesn't have a fever.

Is she miserable? If not then no I wouldn't give calpol unless unsettled. As long as you're following the instructions on the bottle you won't be overdosing her. Both medicines are safe to give together but more effective staggered.

Thank you. She has been mostly ok in the day but obviously full of cold and a bit more tired. Night time she is quite miserable and hard to settle but she normally is quite hard to settle anyway. She has a nasty cough which could be what is waking her up too. She's also teething so really not feeling great, bless her. We have been dosing her for about 5 nights though which makes me uneasy.

I wouldn't give ibuprofen unless there is a fever - just a bit of calpol at night. There's nothing calpol and ibuprofen can do for colds really.
Definitely you shouldn't be giving for 5 nights on the trot- check the packets.

He says it's fine because we aren't constantly dosing her, just giving it at night time. She is teething badly too and has had bright red swollen cheeks and been crying randomly.

Those calpol plug in vapour things work well - been using them for my 8 mth DS

We have one on tonight that I think is just a sinus clearer.

I use the kids version of Neurofen Cold and Flu for dd, it seems to work far better than the normal one for her. I thought it was a sort of placebo effect (on my part itswim) but DH gave her the normal one once overnight in the midst of a stonking cold and we both noticed the difference! I put Olbas oil drops on a cotton pad right by her head but outside the cot/ bed and that clears her nose which makes her sleep better. I also wrap her up warmer and open a window so she has a good circulation of air and that helps her too. It's horrible when they're ill isn't it?

Oh, thanks for the recommendation. Will have a look for that tomorrow. It is horrible seeing her so ill, I can't help but worry.
