Fostair inhaler for Ds (10)

My sons asthma is going through a phase of being uncontrolled. His last hospital admission was July but since then he has had 4 lots (6 tabs for 5 days) of predisolone and using his reliever inhaler much more.
Went to gp today as wheezy and a cough, they have prescribed a fostair combined inhaler reading the gumf it says not for use for under 18's and online backs this up.
Has anyone else been given this for a child ?
He previously had a brown then purple inhalers and tried montelukast tablets. Tia

I've never heard of that kind of inhaler. What colour is it? If the gp has prescribed it then it must be licensed for children despite what the label says.

Does he see an asthma nurse or paediatrician? With that many courses of steriods i'd say he definately needs to be seen by a specialist to get things under control. Is he using a spacer for all of his inhalers? Keeping a peak flow diary?

Quite often medicines aren't specifically licensed for children but are given anyway. It's a bit like medicines in pregnancy - who is going to sign their child (or be a pregnant person) up to a clinical trial?! They generally just given ones that are known to work and have little or no side effects reported in children.

The guidelines for asthma are changing all the time. Fostair isn't licenced for children and he should probably be on a different inhaler but I'm struggling to find the details on line (it is very confusing and I leave it to my asthma nurse) it doesn't mean it's harmful, all it means is the trials haven't been done in children

I have a Fostair inhaler and it's been life changing, I'm obviously not under 18 though!
I never use my blue ventalin inhaler ever, it has has been amazing!
I realise that's not much help.

Its a pink inhaler and it isnt licensed for under 18's- that was from thw Dr and backed up by the leaflet inside

I dont know anyone on it so was just seeing if anyone had had side effects etc.

He has a blue preventor inhaler and has had a brown one, purple one and montelukast tablets but none controlled his asthma longterm.
He uses a spacer and his technique is superb (so the asthma nurse says)
Dr is re referring up to peads, we used to see them but the last one said we didnt need to go again despite repeated hospital admissions and the need for pedisalone far to regularly and as i felt we werent getting any help i agreed. Ive asked not to see the same consultant.
