Otovent and Glue Ear

My son is 5 and has glue ear - we had him at an ENT specialist who advised a 2 month wait and then grommets if no improvement.
We also got his hearing tested - which showed very restricted hearing in both ears.
At the weekend we tried otovent - after a few tries he said "why is everything so loud?" - this seems to have (miraculously) cleared his ears and he is able to hear us again - even whispered words - which he could never hear before.
Question is do we keep using Otovent daily now that he seems better? Ive googled and cant find a definitive answer?!

Where did you get the otovent from? They would be the ones to ask. I suspect my DD has glue ear and we are currently on a waiting list for ent. I would love to get hold of one to try!

I actually emailed the company this afternoon as well - they advised me to keep going with the Otovent to ensure the glue ear doesn't return.
We were really skeptical about it (the ENT consultant didn't seem very positive) but it was amazing - first day he used it and has been fine since.

He didnt have a history of ear infections etc - but the glue ear came on the back of a really snotty cold that lasted over a month - so maybe would have cleared up anyway if we had give it a few more months. I'd really recommend giving it a go anyway!

Wow! Great result. No harm in using it maybe once a week I'd have thought.

Can I ask, do you think a 2 year old would be able to use it? DD age nearly 2 has glue ear and I wondered about Otovent for her but not sure she'd get the idea (though she can blow her nose) or be able to blow hard enough iyswim.

Definitely keep using it. My dd7 has been using hers for 18 months and it has made an enormous difference. Glue ear can come and go and Otovent is meant to be use on an ongoing basis. My dad saw her ENT consultant last week who said carry on. It's non invasive so I'd keep it up.

minipie - I'm not sure if a 2 year old could use it.. my 3 year tried (as wanted to copy her brother) and couldn't inflate the balloon.. worth a try though?

I am delighted it worked so well - has made a massive difference to my son. We have been getting him to do it twice a day now to ensure the glue ear stays away.

Thanks SJR38, I guess part of the issue is she won't be able to tell me whether it's worked or not anyway so how will I know? Going to try some woo cranial osteopathy and see if that helps, will keep the Otovent in mind for older.

DS2 is the same and currently awaiting a hearing test. Came right out of the blue and never an ear infection. Think I will definitely try this if the hearing test comes back bad, which I suspect it will as DSs speech is quite unclear.
