Hi I have a 2 year old who has on and off issues with pooing, he gets blocked up so the doc gave us lactulose and it normally works. However, he has not been since Sunday and despite using lactulose he has not been and screams etc when tries and I now think he's scared so went to the docs again and was given a suppository but we've tried and can't get it in him and can't face trying again (it was horrid). My question can anyone come up with any further suggestions as he won't even stand up now, we have some movicol but he's only drank a little, any help greatly appreciated, tried fruit juices etc and he has a great and varied diet. Thank you in advance

Dried apricots/prunes?? Soften in some warm fruit juice, then I served with ice cream!! But I would go back I doctors as this could lead to bowel problems if not treated...

How are you trying to give the suppository? The best way is to lie him on his left side, bend his legs up and insert it as far as you can. Put a couple of drops of water on to lubricate it.

Have you tried senna as well as the lactulose? In combination they work well together. My DS doesn't need much senna to get him pooing.

Thanks for your help, luckily things got moving yesterday and it's gradually getting easier for him, the movicol seems to have worked, it's difficult as he eats really well and loads of fruit etc need to keep on top of it though as don't want it to cause bowel issues, going to keep a food diary to see if there's anything inparticular or if it's just his system needing to mature. Thanks again
