my ds(8) has been complaining of a sore ankle for a week or so. I could feel a hard lump so have seen the doctor today and she's making an urgent referal for xray as can feel a growth on the bone. I suffer from health anxiety and can only think of the worst.

There are lots of possible explanations for this, most of them are not "worst" at all. The reason for the urgent referral is to rule out the one serious thing it might be because if it is this, they would need to act quickly. That is good medical practise, it doesn't mean that the worst outcome is the most likely, or even likely at all.

I won't tell you not to worry, because you will. But try to minimise it, for your dd's sake. Flowers
