Ds chesty cough for over a month - wwyd?

Ds is 8, over 4 weeks ago caught the usual virus, high temperature and snotty with a chesty cough. After a few days the temp had gone but still wasn't 100% but wasn't concerned as such. A lot has happened over the last month (been in and out of hosp with his sibling) and today sitting with him I can hear his chest, like a cat purr? I guess that's all the catarrh? He's got a chesty cough still but he isn't ill. He's asthmatic but isn't wheezy or short of breath etc. Doctors obviously aren't open until next week and I don't want to block up emergency appointments but he won't get apt for few weeks. Would you be concerned to be like this over a month later?

I took dd1 age 6 after a persistent cough, gp said she had whooping cough, and that the Chinese call it the 100 day cough! She was vaccinated etc but it's not 100% effective. Best to get it checked though

Iv never heard it called that! I know there's so many virus going round so maybe he got better and picked up another when he went back to school and it's overlapped? I'm glad he's not 'ill' with it or I obviously would be at the doctors. He's eating etc fine

I would ask for an emergency app't. My DC's chest sounds similar and the GP told me his chest was clear but it's not guaranteed

How can they sound clear but when your sat next to them you can hear it? Do they the lungs are clear?

I presume the 'putting' IS catarrh? (Sp)

Coughs do drag on and usually just clear on their own. If he is well and not breathless then I'd just leave it. Obviously if he worsens or you are worries, especially if he needs to use his inhalers, I would get him seen.
