Polymorphic light eruption

My DS has recently been diagnosed with this on his ears. They look so painful at the moment!! Does anyone have experience of it? How long did it take to settle?

PLE is provoked by both UVA and UVB so he can be exposed through glass as UVA us transmitted through glass just bear that in mind although the sun shouldn't be too strong at the moment
