'my eyes hurt mummy'

My 4yo DS wears glasses full time and has done since April time.

This evening we were sat on the sofa like normal and he said the big light was hurting his eyes. We turned the big light off and switched to the tall lamp which is a softer light and he said it still made them hurt.

He was okay though and after about 20 mins he went to bed.

He had just come through to my room and said that his eyes were hurting - no lights are on. I offered him calpol but he said no and went back to bed. I asked him which one it was and he said both.

He has been seen in November by an ophthalmologist at the hospital and isn't due back till April/May time. Not sure who I would go to for quick advice?

He hasn't complained before about sore eyes and now I'm worrying!

I am not sure and have no experience with eye probs, but have rung the hospital to try to bring forward appointments for children for other things and they have generally been pretty good. Ring the number on the letter for the April appt and explain and ask for the next available appt, including cancellations.

Does he have any other fever symptoms? Light sensitivity can be a symptom of other things, including meningitis I believe. Worth a check.

I was also thinking the worst about meningitis which can come on very quickly. Any other symptoms at all? Can he drop his chin to his chest?

No he doesn't have a temp and is okay in himself.

I will check him again and see how he goes tomorrow - will ring either hospital or opticians for advice
