Dreaded sickness bug

I am at the end of my tether and don't know what to do . DD1 nearly 3 was admitted to hospital Tuesday am with suspected pneumonia given strong antibiotics and salbutamol and discharged Wednesday at 3pm after her heart rate had normalised and her temp had been normal for 24 hrs. DD2 who is nearly 2 was on the ward with us from 10am Wednesday and they played in the playroom till discharge.

4pm Thursday DD1 started being sick, was sick loads of times up until 3am then Slept till 8 and was able to keep down water. 2pm I gave her a digestive biscuit all was fine till 4pm when sickness and diarrhoea started again. This went on till 2am sat then she slept well till 9am. Managed to east dry cereal for breakfast didn't want lunch but had a couple of grapes and chicken and noodles for tea .

DD2 started being sick about 6pm Thursday evening numerous bouts till 4am then slept til 9 was able to keep water down. She had the biscuit at the same time as her sister was fine and had toast with minimal butter at 6pm and went to bed. Slept well and had dry cereal for breakfast, toast for lunch and boiled chicken and noodles for tea. 8.30pm sat night DD2 started having diarrhoea and being sick again was sick 3 times in 2 hrs and had 7 dirty nappies by 5. Rang nhs direct was told this can happen and to keep offering fluids and bland food and to see go if lathargic or if it lasts more than 7 days. She has been ok all day had some toast at lunch time has drunk well and had 2 dirty nappies and 2 wet ones.

DD1 went for a nap after lunch today woke up 2 hrs later and was sick everywhere again has been sick 2 more times and is constantly asking for food and drink but I'm being cautious and told her wait a few hours and see how she does.

I have bleached and disinfected everything that they have been sick in or on, boil washed everything they have covered in sick including pillows and towels and their pjs. I have wiped down all their toys with antibacterial wipes and hid all cuddly toys. I have cold water sterilised their drinking cups and dummy's. last night I boiled them all in a saucepan just in case the cold water sterilisation wasn't working for some reason. No one else is ill yet in the house and I have been covered in sick numerous times and handled everything so I am pretty sure I would have been ill if I was going to be by now.

What am I doing wrong and what can I do to stop this from keep happening? 3 nights of no sleep and very little rest in the day is catching up on me and I'm getting irritated by everything and snapping at my older DS's when it's not their fault. Advice appreciated please Smile

You're not doing anything wrong Flowers

Some of these bugs are just like that. Keeping the house as clean as possible and dealing with the sicky bedding etc. straightaway is all that you can do.

In terms of drinking, they need to take small sips of water. You will need to police this as they will feel thirsty and without intervention will drink too much for their tummies and bring it all back up again and more.

Have you got a DP you can send to the supermarket for rehydration sachets (if they're suitable for small children)?

If either of your daughters shows signs of bad dehydration (dry mouth, not urinating for hours on end) phone NHS 111 again as they may need to be admitted for monitoring/rehydration.

Sorry you're having such a rubbish time of it.

My DH works away from home he is back on Wednesday, my sister has popped over with some bits, the dioralyte is rank and neither of them will touch it unfortunately so just water that they will drink. I've been keeping the amounts to a few sips a time.
Whenever I've been ill in the past or my older dc I've done the no food for 24hrs after the last time of being sick and this is has always worked for us. I'm tempted to do this with the girls and see if this just knocks it on the head once and for all. It is just so hard as they are constantly asking for food and saying they are hungry :(

Ice lollies will give them sugars and liquids.

Try diluted apple juice. DD had a similar bug last week and I gave her sips of water and sips of apple juice to keep her hydrated.
