Orthodontic brace problems - wire is shifting round

DS has a fixed bottom brace. A while ago we had to get an emergency appointment as the wire was sticking out of the back of it (about 2 weeks after he had it done). The orthodontist explained that the wire had somehow shifted round and "glued" it.

2 weeks later we've got the same problem again. Why?

DD had braces for years and we never had this happen.

This happens all the time during fixed orthodontic treatment. It's just one of those things-its such complicated treatment. Your DD was very lucky!
From my dentist point of view it does tend to be the same children (?maybe more experiemental with their tongue/ oral musculature/teeth) who have constant issues with their ortho appliances. From a mother's point of view; my own DD rarely lasts the full 6 week interval without some sort of orthodontic catastrophe! Wires snapping, brackets debonding are a constant in this house !

That's reassuring, thank you.

DD had her share of problems with her brace but never this.

I agree, it is perfect normal and in our house usually seems to happen at the most inconvenient times/when the orthodontist has just gone on holiday.

As the teeth move into line, the wire will stick out the back. If you imagine the wire is bending around the wonky teeth, it takes a greater length of wire than it does to go around teeth that are all in line.

Does that make sense? So it shows that the wire is doing its job and it can be pretty quick.

seems to happen at the most inconvenient times/when the orthodontist has just gone on holiday - that's exactly what happened last time.

DS also reminds me after the orthodontist has shut for the day/weekend that I need to get him an appointment!

Thank you all
