He is 8 and had a mild cold on off for 2 weeks. Nothing major just bunged up. No temp etc. Today school sent him home early. He definitely has a cold, snotty nose, but no temperature. He is coughing so much. I don't literally mean non stop obviously, but every 1-2 mins he is coughing.

He's drinking plenty, given him calpol and honey and lemon linctus. I don't have anything else to give him as it's all 12+. He is asthmatic, inhaler makes no difference which I don't really expect it to as it's a cold. What else can I do?!?!

Try piriton. It always seems to stop my dd coughing.

Have you tried the nasal spray? My boy hates it but always asks me to do it when he is like that, so I think it must give some relief.

Making the bathroom really hot and steamy is also recommended

And get him to keep drinking plenty.

Horrible when they are suffering

Hot, strong full sugar Ribena every time . . . . . I find it effective from DH to youngest DC!

Snowflake65 · 08/12/2016 17:27

Someone suggested Vicks on the bottom of feet, it seems to help DD

Anothernamechanger1 · 08/12/2016 17:39

I don't had enough Ribena but I have vimto, any good?! I did Vicks on the feet last night, I thought it was a night thing so haven't done that yet today Blush and haven't tried piriton so will try that now too!

Anything good and sugary works for us, but the "red" squashes seem better than the citrus ones so a hot strong Vimto it is! There's a theory that the sugar coats the throat and helps to stop the cough cycle. I doubt it's scientific but we find it works! Good luck

Ok piriton hasn't done anything.. just trying to get him to have hot vimto. Dreading tonight.... he's in my room tonight as he sleep walks and always ends up in my bed so he has a bed on the floor, at least he won't be coughing in my ear.... any night time tips?!!
