Baby smegma - is this normal?

My son is 6 months old and a last night I noticed a small bit build up of smegma at the tip of his penis. I cleaned it, being careful not to draw the foreskin back but more of the smegma returned today. Is it an infection or Is this normal? Do I just continue to clean it?

He doesn't seem to be in any discomfort and his penis doesn't look sore or red. This last week he has discovered he has a penis (!) and constantly grabs it when I'm changing him. I thought, at first, he was just exploring himself but now I'm worried he could have an infection.

Any advice from others who have experienced something similar with their sons would be really helpful. Thank you.

Might be balanitis. My DS had it twice as a baby. Make an appt with your GP. www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Balanitis/Pages/Introduction.aspx
