I'm hoping somebody could give me a little advise and reassurance. DS is 2 and up until 5 weeks ago hardly ever had a cold or anything wrong, very healthy little boy just like older sister. He started with a cough which his sister also had so I took him for a check up to make sure it wasn't on his lungs and infected. Doctor told me it was viral and let it run its course. A week later and after sleepless nights we were watching tv, ds on pillow asleep when he started choking on his cough and couldn't get his breath, gasping for air. I took him a&e and they told me virus and his lungs clear etc so brought him home.

2 weeks later (third week) and after sleepless nights every night I could hear his chest rattling so took him doctor who prescribed antibiotics. His chest cleared but still coughing every time he slept and through the day and more sleepless nights. I took him to see another doctor because this was week 5 and still not cleared, still coughing and retching and gasping for air. In total we have seen 5 doctors and been a&e twice all to say it's a virus. In all of this he has never had a temp and eating drinking and nappies fine. Today ds had very sore red watery eyes he doesn't look right so again I took him a&e they said it's a virus, this has been five/six weeks now and he seems to be going worse not better, tonight he kept telling me head which I presume he has headache. I've giving him nurofen and hopefully he will sleep. Is this normal for it to be going on for so long. I'm starting to feel very anxious about this, we are all so tired but I can't see a light at the end of the tunnel. Had anybody else experienced this? x

My child who is now 19 months had a cough it started as a dry cough and quickly developed into a chesty cough over about 4 days. He was going purple and couldn't get his breath and vomiting we seen the GP who said a chest infection and gave anti biotics but he finished the course and was worse!! So I visited another GP and he said he wasn't concerned at all and my child didn't really need to be seen! I complained and got an app with a different GP the next day, my child was asleep when we arrived and she asked me to take him out of the push chair which he then woke up and began coughing, she looked concerned but then when the cough didn't stop and he was purple she told me this is whooping cough. He had all his jabs so we didn't understand how he had this. He was given different anti bitoics and I was told this cough can last 3-4months and it did!!! But he's over it now
