Diabetes

My daughter has type 1 diabetes. At this time of year, with all the viruses in schools, keeping her safe is a tremendous challenge. Any kind of virus pushes up her blood sugar to unhealthy levels, and a vomiting bug could very quickly land her in hospital. And yet the school rewards attendance, so people keep sending their kids in to school, despite them being full of a cold, or D&V. How on earth do I make people understand how serious diabetes is, without being considered a whiner?
