missing flu vaccinatin (nasal spray) in school

My daughter isn't feeling too good tonight. Says she has a sore head and sounds bunged up with the cold. She is due the flu nasal spray (flu vaccine in nasal spray form) tomorrow in school.

If she isn't well enough for school do you think my doctors surgery will be able to give her it another time?

Just worried if she doesn't go to school tomorrow she will miss it altogether. Thanks.

My nephew wasn't able to get it after missing it in school. I'd ring in the morning and see if you can take her in just for the vaccine if the person administering the vaccine will allow it. Hth

Yes my daughter 'lost' the reply slip giving my permission so she's booked into the flu clinic at the GPs surgery on Tuesday

I'm a practice nurse. We don't administer nasal flu's to school age children unless they need it for a medical condition, asthma for example. Reason being I believe, general practice don't get paid for these cases.
It's worth asking your surgery but we refer missed children back to school, their responsibility to sort out and catch up as it were.
If she's not well/bunged up then it's not advisable for her to have it done anyway.

In my area if a child who has returned a consent form is absent/unwell/refuses it on the day the school nursing team are in the school, a letter is sent home to the parents for them to take to the GP allowing the child to have it in the GP surgery.

If child is unwell (esp temperature) they are not supposed to have the immunisation.

Thanks everyone. Yes I thought if she was unwell she probably shouldn't get it anyway. Just worried that she will end up not getting it at all if she misses it tomorrow. Not sure what is worse? Not getting it at all or receiving it when she has the cold?

My daughter missed hers and the only reason I realised was that the nurse rang that day to get verbal consent for it when they come in again to do those that missed it.

My daughter's school had a mix-up with dates so she wasn't going to get the vaccine until January. I thought that was a bit late so I asked at the GP surgery and she was able to have it there.
