Bad cough enough to keep off school?

DD1 only started school this year so this is all new to me and I don't know what to do!
She has been coughing ALL night and seems to be coughing constantly this morning but is otherwise well and bouncing around the house as usual.
I don't know if I'm expected to take her to school because she feels ok and says she wants to go or if I should keep her off school to stop the cough spreading or is that just for sickness? I can send her in with cough medicine I suppose.
I don't know what to do please help

Unless she's too exhausted to work effectively send her in id say. Coughs are often worse at night and she'lol probably be fine. I'd chat to her about not sharing her friends drinks while she's got a cough though.

If bouncy and no fever I would send her in.

It's just a cough. Send her in!

I would send her in and ask to be called if she is too tired or not coping.

But, before now I have been asked to keep a reception aged child off as his cough was disrupting the class. He was fine apart from the cough.

I'd say calling the school is the best plan different schools have different expectations. My DS's school has a beyond fantastic receptionist and when he started and I wasn't sure on protocols about whether or not to keep him off for things (and actually even at the end of the last school year when he had an unknown rash) she's been excellent at telling me if he can/can't go in. Personally, if DS wasn't tired I'd send him in with a cough, but as others have said, some schools won't want other children to be distracted.

It's worth bearing in mind that many schools can't give the medicine, so you'd have to go in and administer the cough medicine if that's the case.

Just called the school, they were very helpful and said I should take her in if I was happy for her to go and they will administer medicine I just need to fill out a form at reception. Phew!

Keep an eye (ear?) on the night cough Could be asthma.
