Big head, large soft spot and droopy eye

Hi everyone, new to this and thanks in advance for any advice giving.

I have my third baby boy in february 5 weeks premature. My waters broke at 29/4 and i was in hospital to a had him after repeated womb infections. My son wad born with sone breathing and feeding difficults but nothing major and was let home after 7 days. The doctors have been monitoring his development as his head is growing rapidly for his age 49.5cm as of today. He also has a large soft spot which is no where near shutting and a droopy eye. Has anyone been through this?? Am getting really worried he has to go in next monday for a mri under general to rule out fluid in the brain or anything growing, but apart from that he is a healthy, happy wee boy. Have enclosed a wee picture of him. Any advice and thoughts would be great thanks laura

Hi op my little one is 1 yr old. He was born with a large soft spot (fontenell not closed) and droopy eyelid called a ptosis. The paediatrician said his soft spot would close by 18 months and it is closing. He's under an ophthalmologist for his hisceye and has regular eye tests as his eyesight can be affected with the ptosis

Has he been referred to a paediatrician?

Yes it was his consultant that is wanting this mri which is making me more worried. He sees the eye doctors every 2 months for his ptosis as they are saying too is could affect his eyesight xx

Laura, he's a beautiful boy and I very much hope he is well. I think it's a good thing he is having an MRI. You can't tell from an external examination whether there is anything to worry about or not. Having the MRI date come round is daunting. I know from experience. But it's what you need to do. I hope you will get some reassurance that everything is alright and you can enjoy your little boy. x

Out of interest, were your vitamin d levels checked in pregnancy? The paediatrician was almost certain that the fontanelle hadn't shut due to a vitamin d deficiency in me during pregnancy. Had mine checked and yes they were very low. We were both prescribed a course of high level vitamin d x

It's scary being told your LO is having any tests - but remember it can be just as much to rule out anything rather than because they are actively concerned about anything.

I thought soft spit clised by 18 months. No advice but he is scrummy. Hope all is well

Delayed fontanelle closing can be a sign of delayed bone age, my sons was very late to close (about two) due to a growth disorder.
