constipated hell

My 13 month old boy is really struggling with constipation. No amount of fruit and prunes seems to help. Any tips warmly received.

What else is he eating and drinking?
Try to stay clear of crisps, rice cakes, biscuits, ..
Have some soups (minestrone) for dinner, soft chicken breast or boiled cod with diced boiled carrots or cooked spinach, cooked pear compote for afternoon snack, and more water.

Take him to GP get some lactulose.

Got lactulose but he's now vomiting everything up and you need water in your body for lactulose to work. Going to try a suppository today as he's not eating.

Does he have plenty of liquids?

If he's that backed up he's vomiting he needs intervention from the other end and soon. I hope the suppository helps.

Can you get Babylax? It is an enema and works really well.

It is a short term solution though. He needs to see a doctor. He might need a course of Movicol.

Definitely take him to the doctors. Constipation can lead to them withholding so Movicol might be needed. My DD suffered from constipation, diet was fine but she was and still is difficult to get to drink much so we take half a sachet a day to ensure things are moving because she started to withhold.

Thanks for all your responses. Managed to get some lactulose in along with a dribble of water, which worked, but even though it was very runny he still looked in a lot of pain. Will try docs again to ask about movicol. Hopefully once his appetite returns I can get some fruit into him.

If it's runny it could be overflow. If he's that blocked up you need to see someone, especially if he's vomiting with it. Movicol or Senna which works with the lactulose is good.
